Awesome Halloween Superhero Costumes

Nikki McCowan asked:

Anyone who has even a passing interest in movies and television surely has noticed the incredible rise in popularity of superhero films. Why are superheroes popular? Part of the reason is they symbolize the eternal struggle of good versus evil. Also, superheroes embody a number of traits that many find admirable. Then, there are those who have fond memories of heroes from their childhood. This perpetually stimulates their interest in these heroes. For some, it’s just the fact that superheroes are downright cool that makes them appealing. So, it is no surprise that superhero movies are popular and should be even less surprising that superhero Halloween masks are perennial favorites. And, yes, there are a huge number of superhero masks and costumes to choose from.

The main producers of comic characters are Marvel and DC. Needless to say, they have spawned some excellent Halloween masks and costumes…

Without a doubt, Marvel Comics significantly change the face of comic books and superheroes with a radical approach to changing superhero clichés. Marvel created some of the most memorable original characters in history including Spiderman, the Incredible Hulk, and the Fantastic Four. How great were these characters? Well, not only do their books still sell tremendously to this day they have also been featured in some the most successful film franchises in history. So, if you show up to a party dressed up as a top Marvel character such as Captain America, you can’t help but look great. These classic Marvel characters are greatly loved and that’s why they make fantastic Halloween masks and costumes.

DC Comics have been around since the 1930’s and have spawned three of the most popular heroes in all of pop culture: Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. While many of DC’s characters are no longer at the current popularity level of Marvel’s characters, certain DC heroes still remain iconic. So, you really can’t go wrong wearing a Batman costume or Halloween masks of one of his enemies such as The Joker. Then again, you can even wear the costume of one of DC’s cool “B Grade” heroes such as Green Arrow or Green Lantern. They look quite stunning as well.

While comic books are definitely the source of a number of unique and original super heroes, many amazing heroes experience their origin in another medium. In the days before television, radio was the primary entertainment medium. During the golden age of radio, a number of amazing heroes were born. Two of the most popular were the Green Hornet and the Lone Ranger. (Lone Ranger Halloween masks never go out of style) To this day, both of these heroes remain incredibly popular as Halloween costume choices. Then, there are other classic heroes whose popularity is owed to the film industry. Flash Gordon may have started as a weekly newspaper strip, but it was his appearance in old movie serials which cemented his popularity forever.

Really, there are no limits to the number of popular superhero costumes. As such, they always make a safe and fun choice for Halloween masks.

How Comic Art Improve the Youngster’s Skills

Comic art is not only a medium to entertain the children but the same time also helpful to increase  imagination power, conceptulisation for any age group and emphasise anything to be one in this competetive world. The youth can adapt this either by reading or by doing. The artists have many kind of styles to draw a comic e.g cartoon, semirealistic, realistic, carricatures, etc and makes more prominent by the didgital color effects.

To become a comic artist you should have a instict for good visualisation so you can illustrate the concept or story whichever you have in mind.First of all,for the beginers it is must to have a hold on the pencil or brush (it is your choice what media you want to apply) just practice with oval and circular shapes and with standard primitive shapes like box, sphere, cone and cylinder. To keep a fine grip on pencil most of the artists being practicing with oval and circular shapes while they are too good in drawing and popular but just for a hold.

To draw any object or character you should observe the things and living beings deeply  with their nature and behaviour so that you can easily draw a consequential illustrations which is most important thing for the comic art e.g observe the rubber ball’s behaviour and it’s anticipations, when a rubber ball thrown by force than watch how many times it bounces over the ground against the gravity and also watch it’s stretching during the up-down movements. for another instance watch a an animal for their behaviour how they act,and for their anatomy and feature details.Obervations not only makes your art mature but also make realistic.when you start to draw a comic strip you should keep patience and draw the scenes or characters using their dynamic angles and perspectives like bottom view, worm eye view, top view, bird’s eye view etc.

To  make more prominent to the scene, panel or character you should draw them using dynamic angles and perspectives so the reader have some fun and can read the story with enjoyment. For the beginers it is recommended that they should observe famous comic and graphic novel artists work, live sketching, images and paintings, anatomy books to be a good artist.

Comic Book and Superhero Movies- a Genre in Transition

February 18th, 2009

Andrew Hawnt asked:

It is a rather strange and exciting time for the comic book movies genre. With last year’s superhero films The Dark Knight, Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, audiences were treated to feature films that took the core elements of the superheroes that have filled comics for decades and turned them into successful movie properties. The genre as a whole has reached something of an impasse now, mostly down to The Dark Knight, but also down to this year’s WATCHMEN adaptation. Audiences aren’t just there for effects, and the studios have been taking note. The comic book films we are now seeing released are amongst the most serious, most respectful and most powerful the genre has ever produced.

With The Dark Knight, long-held perceptions of the superhero genre have shifted somewhat. Now, movie audiences are starting to see the same grit and level of drama that comics audiences have known of for years. Iron Man is an ideal example of the genre being captured perfectly on film. Robert Downey Jr’s portrayal of the billionaire Tony Stark was pitch perfect, giving us a hero with much more than just two dimensions.

Some may argue that the superhero film came of age back with the first X-men film, and they would be right to a certain extent, but it does seem that the genre is starting to be taken more seriously by critics as a viable source of intelligent entertainment as well as simple blockbuster fodder. What critics need to remember is that these characters have had decades to become the fully realized people that appear on screen. These characters come supplied with a ready-made background and motivations, making it much easier for filmmakers to bring a vibrant portrayal to the screen.

WATCHMEN is seen as the Citizen Kane of comic books, and to many fans of the printed page, it is the Holy Grail. Film versions have been talked about for many years now, but it finally fell upon the shoulders of Zack ‘300′ Snyder to bring Alan Moore and Dave Gibbon’s massively influential 12-issue series to a new audience. Fans old and new are curious as to the film will match the depth and scope of the book itself.

That’s the thing though- films have been a huge boon to the comics industry, helping it survive as tastes in entertainment have continued to change. With superheroes, there will always be an audience, but that audience has changed. The comic book movie is no longer just the domain of elitist geeks (not that it ever really was), but now something that everyone can take an interest in. With new Spider-man, Batman and X-Men movies on the way, as well as many more properties announced and in development, the future of the genre really can’t go anywhere but up, up and away.

Four Smallville Superhero Spin-off Ideas

Groshan Fabiola asked:

Rumors have been circulating that this season will be Smallville’s last, and of course, what better way to fuel these rumors than to introduce the idea of a spin-off? There’s no denying that Smallville is one of The CW’s biggest hit series, and they could surely find a way to let the Smallville saga live on, and keep fans craving for more. Yes, they previously tried to pull it off with an Aquaman series, but that production was cut short after the WB/UPN merger, which sabotaged all the new shows.

Fortunate for the CW, they have been stabilized and thus can pull off another hour-long comic book drama about some superhero played by a hot blue-eyed, dark-haired, thick-lipped model/actor who can make our television sets burn with chemistry. Also taking into consideration Smallville’s last season, which introduced their own little Justice League. And so that’s where the potential for a spin-off lies.

So what are the options for the CW? They could focus on a character or two and from there create a whole new plot possibly connected to where Smallville may leave off.

For one, there’s the Green Arrow, a typical modern day Robin Hood with no powers whatsoever. The catch is that he has not only a passion for saving the day, but the right gadgets to do so. Not interesting enough? Justin Hartley, who plays Green Arrow, is from the soap opera Passions, which guarantees that he is hot and gorgeous.

Then there’s Aquaman. The first time might have failed, but now that the CW has established superhero fanaticism, maybe there would be a second chance for the water dude. But then again, they must take note of not casting Alan Ritchson, as he may be aesthetically perfect, but his acting skills won’t be saving the show during the time of need.

This is one for the Robocop fanatics: Cyborg. Victor, half-man and half-machine, is similar to Bionic Woman. He’s also been in an accident that almost cost him his life, and science has not only granted him a second chance, but also some crime-busting gear.

Let’s go back to Justice League and take a look at Bart “Impulse” Allen, who might be the coolest member of the gang. Why? Because he’s not exactly goody-goody. Moreover, Kyle Gallner is one great actor, and he can bring the charm to Impulse anytime.

If ever the CW does chose one of these heroes to hand over a spin-off to, we all hope they would live up to what Smallville has become. It would be great to see a wonderful spin-off from a very successful franchise of Smallville.

Four ’smallville’ Superhero Spin-off Ideas

Groshan Fabiola asked:

Now that Smallville is rumored to be on its last legs, there have been accompanying speculations as to how the beloved franchise can be made to live on. As with all things, at some point, sooner or later, even Smallville, which has enjoyed a very good run considering it has six seasons under its belt and has just recently opened its seventh.

Here are four concepts for potential Smallville superhero spin-offs: The Green Arrow, Aquaman, Cyborg and Impulse.

First up, the Green Arrow. Sure, he may not be as prominent as his other leafy compatriots, namely, the Green Lantern and the Green Hornet, but Arrow has his own qualities that should merit his consideration. A modernized Robin Hood of sorts, the Green Arrow makes use of sophisticated gizmos and gadgets to complete his heroic efforts. Justin Hartley gave life to this do-gooder as a recurring character in Smallville’s sixth season.

Next we have Aquaman. Actually, this member of The Justice League was given his own pilot a couple of years ago. Al Gough and Miles Millar, the brains behind Smallville, had tried their hands at this spin-off thing by creating Aquaman, which had, in fact, starred Justin Hartley as the aquatic hero. Unfortunately, the show fell victim to the merger of WB and UPN, and failed to make waves.

There is also the half man, half machine Victor, also known as Cyborg. Victor a football star in high school before a vehicular mishap left him requiring some bionic intervention. He has a distinct sentimental advantage as one of only a handful of African-American superheroes.

Finally, we have Impulse. Edgier and with a tinge of darkness and unpredictability lacking in his fellow Justice Leaguers, Bart Allen dons the title of rebel as much as he does hero. Kyle Gallner offers just the right mix of good and bad into his character.
